Real-world support beyond the basics

Blocks 4 + 5: Industry Certification Pathway

The only pathway of its kind in Australia - designed to support new groomers through the complex, hands-on years that follow your foundation training in dog grooming.

By completing Blocks 4 and 5, you won’t just meet industry expectations - you’ll exceed them. If you’re working in a salon, you’ll move up faster and take on more responsibility with confidence. If you’re working for yourself, you’ll handle more clients sooner and be able to charge more, sooner.

Most training stops after the basics. But that’s often when things get complicated. You’re suddenly managing matted dogs, nervous clients, time pressure, and grooming styles you’ve only seen in theory.

Blocks 4 and 5 are designed to change that - offering guided education, industry insight, and real feedback over your first few years in the job. It’s your next step after Blocks 1–3: a long-term professional development pathway with ongoing learning, not just a finish line.

How it Works

Getting from basic theory to true salon confidence shouldn’t feel like a sprint.

Each block is structured over 18 months - 12 months of monthly content releases, followed by 6 months dedicated to completing practical assessments.

The Structure

Blocks 4 and 5 are delivered gently - one lesson per month. That gives you time to absorb, apply, and grow without overwhelm. Learn at a realistic pace that fits around your work, your life, and your clients.

The Support

Your Pro Membership to igroomhub (valued at $349/year) is your flexible resource hub. Search tutorials, revisit past learnings from Blocks 1–3, or fill in gaps as they come up. You’re never left stuck or guessing.

The Long Game

This isn’t just a course - it’s a professional development plan. Over 2–3 years, you’ll build the confidence, speed, and skill to handle any grooming challenge. Real education, with structure and staying power.

Rawhide treats are a popular product in grooming salons and pet supply stores, often purchased by customers looking for something to keep their dogs entertained and support dental health. As a dog grooming professional, it’s important to provide accurate information to customers about these treats.

What Is Rawhide?
Rawhide treats are made from the inner layer of animal hides, typically from cattle or pigs. During manufacturing, the hides are cleaned, cut, and shaped before being treated with chemicals, preservatives, or flavoring agents.

Common Safety Concerns:
While rawhide can satisfy a dog’s natural chewing instinct, it has potential risks that customers should be aware of. These include choking hazards, digestive blockages if large pieces are swallowed, and possible allergic reactions to the chemicals used in processing. Recommending supervision and ensuring customers choose appropriately sized treats for their dogs can help minimize these risks.

Offering Alternatives:
Customers often appreciate advice on safer options. Suggest alternatives like dental chews, dehydrated meat treats, or durable rubber chew toys. These options provide similar benefits while reducing the risk of choking or digestive issues.

By understanding rawhide and its alternatives, you can confidently answer customer questions and help them make informed choices that prioritize their dog’s safety and well-being.

About Practical Assessments

  • As part of Blocks 4 and 5, you’ll complete a series of practical assessments to demonstrate your grooming skills on a range of coat types and styles.

  • Block 4 assessments (e.g. Breed Specific Trims on Toy Poodle, Mini Schnauzer, Westie, English Cocker, Oodle) can be submitted via video.

  • Block 5 assessments are more advanced and will need to be completed in person - either at a grooming competition, through an approved assessor, or at igroomschool HQ in Melbourne. You’ll complete five assessments aligned with the FCI’s grooming competition categories.

  • We’re working to build accessible assessment options around Australia, and where possible, we’ll aim to connect you with the school or trainer who originally trained you.

  • There may be a small additional fee for in-person assessments, depending on your location and chosen pathway. We’ll guide you through your options when the time comes.

If that all sounds a bit overwhelming right now - take a breath.
You’ll be surprised how quickly your skills grow when you’ve got structured support, consistent training, and a clear path forward. This isn’t about rushing. It’s about building the kind of groomer you want to become, one step at a time.
